why is Danforth's statement "Mr.Parris,you are a brainless man!"..why is that statement ironic?

He means to insult Parris but in many ways he is a brainless man. I suppose the real irony is that Parris is interested in the same thing Danforth is, convicting witches. Still Danforth calls him a "brainless man".
