Why does Giles tell Cheever he will burn in hell

In Act Two, Cheever arrives at the Proctors' home to arrest Elizabeth. Giles knows this is wrong. Giles Corey says, "It's a pity, Ezekiel, that an honest tailor might have gone to Heaven must burn in Hell. You'll burn for this, do you know it?"
