In this particular part of the story, the only ones who gain power are those who side with Abigail and those who "want" Abigail's accusations to be true. For example, Judge Hathorne wants Abigail's lies to give credence to what the court has been doing so they appear righteous. Ultimately, however, Abigail oversteps her "power" and loses her credibility, giving power in the end to John Proctor who refuses to save his life through a lie which would ruin his good name.
