Hale's behavior in Act II is one of superiority. He is so intent on proving the existence of witchcraft in Salem, that he doesn't think about the repercusions of his own actions. Hale's academic studies and beliefs help to cause the mob mentality, which is prepared to prosecute community members with no proof.
