Witchcraft plays a role throughout the whole play. Act 3 has more to do with the hysteria of accusations and the witch court trying to protect its own reputation and validity. The irony in act 3 is that it is quite plain that no witchcraft exists in Salem. It is only the hysteria and manipulation of people that fuels the tragedy.
