What do we learn from Miller’s overture ? Why is it necessary to provide e this historical context before reading the play

I think we need a little historical context to appreciate the mindset and society of the Puritans to appreciate this play. The narrow and literal view of Puritan faith provided fertile ground for the paranoia and chaos to come.
