ACT IV
Hale attributes Proctor's willingness to hang to pride. Hale does try to save him by entreating Elizabeth to "go to him...it is pride...it is vanity...what profit him to bleed...shall the dust praise him...shall the worms declare his truth?" But we know all know how it ends......
