This is sort of an opinion question. Although I doubt that the hysteria of Salem occurs today but there are extreme conservative religious groups that take their religious teachings literally. Like the Salemites, some religious groups (very conservative Christians) that believe in literal interpretations of witchcraft, possessions and the devil. I suppose teenage girls have not changed much. Adolescence is a time of rebellion and testing the waters. Dancing around the forest was "forbidden" entertainment. Most teenagers (girls and boys) like "forbidden" entertainment. Owning up to their own actions is also a common issue among teenagers. Deflecting blame and suspicion was and is nothing new.
