In Act two why arthur inclde detail about proctor adding salt to the rabbit screw?

There is definite tension in this marriage. Proctor feels a lack of spice, so to say, in his marriage and his stew. I suppose he is able to spice things up in both cases (he uses Abigail in the first). I think he also wanted to complement Elizabeth later on the stew to smooth things over.
