In Act Two, what would you do at this point if you were John Proctor?

Proctor needed to make a stand against what he knew were false accusations from the beginning. He needed to swallow his pride, admit his error, and expose what Abigail and the other girls were doing. Proctor's protection of his own reputation was directly responsible for the arrest and execution of innocent people.
