The Crucible
How was Giles killed? Why did he die this way, rather than being hanged? Everytime he was asked to plead guilty or innocent, what was his reply?

Crucible act 4
Giles was murdered by pressing; they laid stones upon his chest until the weight crushed him. He died this way so that no one could auction his land and his sons would inherit. His reply every time he was asked to plead guilty was “More
weight.”
