Abigail is clearly leading the girls in "witch play" at the beginning of the novel. She drinks animal blood and casts spells. Abigail knows this is in complete violation of Puritan law. She does not take responsibility when they are discovered. She instead deflects blame onto other girls. She also expresses hatred and vengeance against Elizabeth Proctor who she worked for as a maid.
