Miller's talent for painting a picture and laying out a story is most evident in Act I. We are introduced to the characters, the community, and the story's main themes in this Act. We come to understand that the people of Salem are not simply religious; they're superstitious, thrive on gossip, and most important of all...... many are vindindictive. Thus, as the act ends, the audience is well aware that the girl's are acting..... making their ability to influence intelligent adults all the more appalling.
