This is largely a revenge tale. Dantes is set up buy his enemies. He is falsely accused and convicted of being a Bonapartist. Dantes, an innocent man, is thrown into the Chateau D'If (prison) and forgotten. Eventually Dentes escapes and goes about seeking revenge upon the men that have wronged him.
