The main ideas in this chapter all have to do with Dante's plot to ensnare Morrel in order to exact revenge and to foreshadow coming events;

1) The Count looks like a great guy when he extends time to Morrel before collecting his debts.

2) the news of the Pharaon's sinking

3) the Count's interaction with Julia (instructions)
