David Malter is critical of conservative Hasidic Judaism (as represented by Reb Saunders), but he is a self-ascribed Zionist, which means he is in favor of establishing an officially Jewish state. World War II was instrumental for the Zionist movement, since the Holocaust led many to consider the merits of providing some sort of stability for the Jewish people as a whole.
