The Chosen

Mr. Malter says, " A father has a right to raise his son in his own way, Reuven." Considering the way Reb Saunders raises Danny, do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

While it is probably true that there are certain "basics" of raising children and fathering, each father is different. Both fathers in this novel think they are raising their sons in appropriate fashion, yet they are very different in their approach. Most people would agree that as long as the fathers are not abusive in some horrible way, the way Reb Saunders raises Danny is within his rights as a father.
