David Caroni is a very intelligent, young man, who is manipulated (blackmailed) into lying about the reason for Jerry's refusal to sell the chocolates. Brother Leon fixes David's grade by giving him a faiing grade on an important paper. This shakes David up enough to make him lie about the Vigils' influence on Jerry's decision.
