The Centaur Metaphors and Similes

The Centaur Metaphors and Similes

Fertility (Metaphor)

When Venus asked Chiron whether he considered women negligible, she decided not to wait for his answer and continued talking to him. She complained that men thought women were weak but it was not truth, for women might be weak in arms, but their things were strong, “ the world was rooted between them ”. Here, the goddess referred to women’s ability to give birth to children.

Neglectfulness (Metaphor)

George Caldwell says that the main reason of Zimmerman’s neglectfulness and lack of wish to establish disciple is that he wants his students “ to chew us up ”. In such a way, Caldwell may imply that Zimmerman doesn’t care about welfare of his workers.

Contagintagious (Metaphor)

When George Caldwell looked at his students in a vain hope to get a proper respond, the only thing he saw was that “ the kids were catching fire ”. Looking at Zimmerman and his flirting with one of the students, they forgot where they were. Zimmerman’s lust was contagious and soon discipline was forgotten.

Clueless (Simile)

Like any other teacher, George Caldwell has students he likes working with and hates working with. For instance, he considers the Osgood girl “ dumb as pure white lead ”. This simile also indicates that George is a general science teacher, for he compares the girl’s cognitive abilities with a complex salt.

Psoriasis (Simile)

Peter inherits his illness from his mother and it would be underestimation to say that his psoriasis just bother ed him. If he wore a bright shirt, his shoulders would definitely be covered with “ the white specs that showered from my scalp like a snow ”.

Unpredictable (Simile)

Peter could never tell when his mother was mad or even why she was mad. Her mood was changeable; her moodiness or cheerfulness would “ come and go like weather ”. Keeping in mind that Cassie was a goddess of agriculture, a comparison between her character and weather makes sense
