I'm not sure that Grusha wanted to experience anything, but rather, she reacted to events beyond her control and saved the life of a child, showing courage and determination. What Grusha wanted to do was marry the man she loved, something that was taken from her when her brother forced her to marry Jussup. Two years later, she also wanted to "remain" the mother of the infant she'd saved two years before, and who she had come to love... she was his mother. That dream too was taken away when the soldiers arrived to return Michael to his mother, who only wanted him to gain control over her husband's estates.

Note, in the end, Grusha gets what she wants... the man and the child.
