Like Holden they often become ostracized and alone. Some people who are clever and understand human thought become, financially anyway, successful like Bill Gates. Holden stays lost in his melancholy, unable to relate to people. He is so full of teen angst and anger that his negativity becomes a vicious cycle. He has some keen observations about people but is unable to put them into a functional context.
