Holden knows that he is in big trouble for getting expelled yet again. He knows that his punishment will be severe, but he is unprepared for the final punishment which is to go to a mental institution where he is receiving treatment for his various "illnesses." No matter what he expects, he finds this mental institution a great place to tell his story, but his dislike for his family members, except for Phoebe, shows that he expects the worst from them.
