I don't have the book in front of me but I can tell you that Holden is incredibly lonely. He covers his angst and loneliness up with excuses and rhetoric. Really, he wants to call Jane because of the simple facts that he feels alone, depressed and just wants to talk with someone. There are sexual undertones as well but simple human contact would be the main idea.
