The ducks symbolize cyclical change..... change that isn't permanent, but rather moves in cycles according to necessity.

The red hat symbolizes individuality.

The gold ring symbolizes hopes, dreams, and the risks involved in reaching for the stars (or the golden rings on a carousel).

The museum represents Holden's desire that everything stay the same.... it represents permanence.
