Holden struggles with his identity. He feels that he is acts older than his peers. He even thinks that he sees life in a way many adults cannot comprehend. Although Holden has some insight into life that his peers may not consider, his immature emotional state negates much of his understanding, Sometimes I act a lot older than I am – I really do – but people never notice it. People never notice anything.
