Holden seems to feel guilty for excluding his brother from that particular trip. Now that Allie is dead, Holden wants another chance to make it up to him.

Why does Holden feel the situation with Maurice and Sunny is made worse by his wearing pajamas?
Holden feels vulnerable, and probably child-like, in his pajamas. As with the red hunting hat, he feels safer in certain clothes and more vulnerable in others. Pajamas are associated with sleep, calm, and innocence, so Holden feels less capable of taking on this very adult situation in them.
