Why does the author, John Boyne, include Chapter 11? What is the purpose of this chapter?

Boyne uses Chapter Eleven to reveal details about Bruno's family we wouldn't have known. We quickly learn that Bruno doesn't like the "Fury", and that his father has no choice but to move..... if he doesn't accept Hitler's appointment..... he too will be imprisoned.
