Death says that everybody in Nazi Germany receives some kind of punishment. Nazis who survive the war have the guilt of the murder of six million Jews on their consciousness. Hans is finally succesful in joining the Nazi party. He joins to save his family. Hans, however, wants to be punished for joining. Punishment would ease his emotional pain.
