Why does Max and Walter tell Hans "Do you play accordion?

I think you are referring to Chapter 29 when Max asks Hans if he plays the accordion. This is significant because Max's father, Erik Vandenburg, (a German Jew) taught Hans to play in WW1. Hans softly replies to Max's question, "Of course I do."
