I suppose the standout stylistic component is Zusak's choice to use Death as a narrator. Death tends to be a bit of a spoiler in terms of some heavy foreshadowing but Zusak makes him objective and reliable. Zusak also mixes the heartwarming best of humanity with the dismal worst of humanity to give us a mixed tone of wartime life.
