Liesel's life represents beauty in the wake of brutality through her loss of family, and her newfound relationships with the Hubermanns, Rudy, Ilsa and Max. Through Rosa and Hans, and even Ilsa, Liesel learns what it's like to put others before yourself. Their presence in her life, and their care for Max, teaches both characters that good does exist in the midst of horror, and that people can change the lives of others by their own individual actions.
