How does guilt affect Liesels life?

Liesel's life is filled with guilt. It begins with the guilt she feels after the separation from her mother and brother, and her brother's subsequent death. It continues with her guilt over stealing the The Gravedigger's Handbook, and later her sense of guilt over the loss of her foster family and friends (survivor's guilt). As time goes on these feeling of guilt are alleviated, but none-the-less they are a significant part of her young life.
