Like all the death and destruction Liesel experiences, the eventual death of Hans and Rosa may have been shocking but certainly not surprising. I don't think Liesel expected anybody she loved to escape this war alive. The Hubermans were Liesel's parents. Although they adopted her we know far more about them than her real parents. Liesel was much closer to Hans although Rosa did grow on her. After the air raid, Liesel risks her life just to fetch Hans's broken accordion. The death of both of them affected Liesel more than the reader can know.
