The Beautiful Struggle Themes

Fatherhood

In Ta- Nehisi’s family, Dad had the great power. He was a wise man, who read many books and tried to educate his children and raise them good men, who serve God and helps people. His children respected him and he was their her. But sometimes he was strict with his children in order to teach them that they should be responsible for their actions and no one except them. The theme of fatherhood is extremely important in the novel. It shows the great influence and value of the role of father in the process of kids growing up. It is as important as mother’s and in some cases even dad educates more effectively.

Family

Everything depends on family – one’s character, behavior and life priorities. The atmosphere in family is extremely important for a child, because even in early age it absorbs all the information around it, both good and bad. The atmosphere in Ta- Nehisi’s family had it’s peculiarities. His father was a good and educated man, but he had seven children by four women and this fact couldn’t be missed. His mother was a good wise woman, morally strong and in some moments independent. Their influence was good on Ta- Nehisi , and his relationships with his siblings were mostly friendly. And there was Big Billy, his elder brother, who was an idol for him, not the best idol, it should be said but still he had a image of a strong boy with high self-esteem who knew what he wanted and how to get it.

Childhood

Childhood is a magic time when everything seems so easy and bright, where problems don’t exist and there is just love, smile and happiness. It is also the time of formation of our individuality – we learn the world, learn other people and decide who we want to be and how we want to live. Ta- Nehisi’s childhood was relatively happy, there were no serious problems in his family like alcohol and fights but he always knew that he is not like other people around him; he was expected to conform to the worst stereotypes about African-Americans. And he faced the fact. Since his childhood Ta- Nehisi knew that Knowledge is important and if man wants something desperately he will fulfill his desires into reality and it helped him to move forward although he was afraid, although there was a mystery before him and he didn’t know whether he made a right or wrong choice.

Talent

If one has a talent one should, or even have to develop it because otherwise one cannot be happy and fulfill his life mission. Ta- Nehisi was a talented boy, he wrote beautiful poetry and hip hop songs. It was his passion in life and it made him happy. He enjoyed the process as well as the result of his work. As it is known, without support of close people. Ta- Nehisi had this support, his parents were his best support and they didn’t let him stop and destroy his talent and he was thankful for that because otherwise he couldn’t even imagine how his life would like. He wouldn’t enter high school then and his teachers wouldn’t notice his talent and he wouldn’t built his career.
