Kind of Activity:
Students will anaylze the language used in various news sources to talk about immigration issues today.
Common Core Standards:
For homework, students brought in examples of contemporary news articles dealing with immigration and refugees in the United States. For this activity, students will work in pairs to analyze the ways in which these issues are dealt with by the news. Ask students to discuss the following questions:
*What does your article talk about?
*What kind of tone does your article take? Whose "side" does it take?
*What kind of bias do you detect, if any?
