The Awakening

What does this quote mean?

"She stretched her strong limbs that ached a little. She ran her fingers through her loosened hair for a while. She looked at her round arms as she held them straight up and rubbed them one after the other, observing closely, as if it were something she saw for the first time, a fine, firm quality and texture of her flesh. She clasped her hands easily above her head, and it was thus she fell asleep.” pg. 36

What does this tell us about Edna?

What is this quote's significance?

Thanks

Edna has never paid much attention to herself. She's a wife and mother, but she has no separate identity. This quote signals the beginning of her awareness that she is an individual. She sees, and she feels..... and she's about to embark on a journey to find herself.
