Franklin has to learn to stay away from his family and begin to believe in himself, even as they did not.  His success in Phiadelpia shows that he was much better off to stay and work in Philadelphia than to return to his former, relatively downtrodden life.  He becomes a fine writer and works for a successful printer.  This is good for him.
