The Alchemist (Coelho)

Camel driver

The camel driver tells Santiago, "I've crossed the desert many times...but the desert is so huge and horizons so distant, they make a person feel small, and as if he should remain silent." Santiago later thinks to himself that the desert "seems old and wise" What theme (dominant message) is expressed in these reflections about the desert?
