Why does Tom experience mixed emotions upon seeing Injun Joe dead?

Tom was afraid on Injun Joe. He thought Injun Joe was going to kill him for much of the book. Still, Tom is seeing a dead man which is difficult. Tom also feels partly responsible for Injun Joe's demise.
