was their house in fact, ""mighty nice"" or in bad taste?

Their house is pretty tacky. There are curtains with castles and cows, little knick knacks everywhere, and gaudy paintings. The family itself are traditional, stubborn and fiercely proud. This comes across in the furnishings because everything screams identity. All the tacky traditional stuff validates their sense of pride and self-adulation.
