If you are referring to the book Huckleberry Finn, Tom didn't change too much. He devises an ill timed extravagant plan to free Jim. The plan really wasn't in Jim's best interest but Tom liked the adventure of it all. Tom really wasn't too concerned about Jim's welfare or Huck's feelings. Tom only shows up near the end of the book and he doesn't change too much. Although he has embraced "civil living", he still has a sense of adventure in him.
