This book is an excellent narrative to teach teens about poverty and systemic discrimination. Arnold has a kind, humorous, and sincere voice to his first person narration. It is difficult not to connect with him. By getting to know Arnold Spirit, the reader experiences racism that visible minorities experience everyday. Racism and white entitlement is explained to teens in a way they can understand and reflect on in their own lives.
