What do you think about Mr. P's remark: "The only thing you kids are being taught is how to give up"? Why does he say this to Arnold?

Mr. P. is trying to spark something inside of Arnold. He feels as if his job is a dead end, as none of his students move on..... He sees the people on the reservation as complacent..... they settle instead of trying to move on..... instead of striving for something better.
