How does Junior cope with his grief (deep sadness caused especially by someone's death)?

Junior faces the deaths of those he loves, especially deaths caused by alcohol related illnesses, by taking note of his own opportunities to escape the fate of so many on the reservation. He finds his solace in education, and the knowledge that he can move beyond the life so many others are leading.
