Newton’s first law says that your body tends to remain moving at constant velocity when there is no net force. When the airplane accelerates, the seat behind you pushes you forward, providing the necessary horizontal force to accelerate you. Using Newton’s third law, we identify the reaction force as you pushing backward against the seat.
