A polarized object has its charges aligned so that the "center of positive charge" is shifted from the center of negative charge. Such an object generally has no net charge. This is shown in Figure 22.11. On the other hand, a charged object has an excess of either electrons or protons, and does have a net charge. This is discussed on page 416.
