The hypothalamus in both men and women secrete gonadotropin-releasing hormone, which stimulates the anterior pituitary gland to secrete both follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). These two hormones, in turn, act on the male and female sex organs and stimulate them to produce and release sex hormones.
