Chapter 12 - Self-Quiz - Page 198: 1

Answer

b.

Work Step by Step

Sexual reproduction is more advantageous than asexual reproduction in environments that change. In unstable environments, any catastrophic change may devastate a whole population of organisms that reproduce asexually because they have identical genes, and the traits for which these genes code may not be suitable to the change. On the other hand, with sexual reproduction, if offspring have variations, although some of these offspring may die, some offspring may actually survive because they may have traits that may help them adapt to the new environment.
