Work Step by Step

Interference occurs when small double-stranded pieces of mRNA are diced into miRNA, resulting in the separation of the two strands, with one of the miRNA strands binding to a cluster of proteins, creating a silencing complex. This silencing complex inactivates mRNA strands that have complementary bases to the miRNA. These mRNA strands can no longer be translated into proteins.
