Chapter 1 - Picturing Distributions with Graphs - Apply Your Knowledge - Page 20: 1.3a

Answer

Sum of the audience shares for listed formats: 76.4% Percent of radio audience listening to other formats: 23.6%

Work Step by Step

1. The sum of the audience shares for the given formats can be found by adding up each formats audience share from Country all the way through Mexican regional. These audience shares add up to 76.4%. 2. In order to find the percent of radio listeners listening to formats other than those listed in the table, we must start by taking the entire population: 100 percent. Next we must subtract the percentage of people who listen to the radio formats listed in the table. In the first part of this problem we found that percentage to be 76.4 percent. 100% - 76.4% = 23.6%. This means that 23.6 percent of people listen to other formats that are not listed in the table.
